Our Work

United Way of Cumberland County (UWCC) recognizes that lasting change is achieved by addressing the underlying causes of problems. In order to make the greatest long-term impact and improve lives, United Way partners with local nonprofit agencies to fund programs that address education, financial stability, health and basic critical needs.

However, UWCC relies on the generosity of local businesses, organizations and individuals to provide the funding that is used to support local programs. After receiving community donations, UWCC enlists the support of local volunteers to assist in distributing funds to programs that are best suited to address community needs.

The UWCC Board of Directors approved the following goals pertaining to the allocation of donor contributions:

EDUCATION: - Programs that strengthen children’s ability to succeed in school from kindergarten to college and programs that build successful youth, families and Cumberland County adults.

HEALTH: - Programs that provide access to health care and wellness education programs that provide access to health care and wellness education to help people manage and prevent chronic physical and mental illnesses

BASIC CRITICAL NEEDS & FINANCIAL STABILITY: - Programs that provide access to emergency food, safe shelter, rental, utility, and medical assistance, as well as programs that provide employment preparation and financial self-sufficiency

In 2016 – 2017, United Way completed a Community Needs Assessment in order to identify the most pressing needs in Cumberland County. The comprehensive report is a result of local focus groups, a community-wide survey and other local research. To review the results of the assessment, please click the links below.
