 spirit of volunteerism by recognizing individuals who significantly contri
 bute to their community through volunteer service.\n\nThe Commission revie
 ws county recommendations and awards are given out in the counties. The gu
 idelines and application form are provided below.\n\n1. Nominees must have
  been engaged in volunteer activities for at least one year in North Carol
 ina. Volunteer service performed outside the state is ineligible.\n2. Nomi
 nees are ineligible if they receive compensation for their service.\n     
   a. This includes service done for school credit\, in the official capaci
 ty of National Service programs\, as a “loaned executive”\, or for other f
 orms of compensation.\n3. Nominees are ineligible if they are required to 
 do the service.\n       a. This includes services mandated by schools\, th
 e court\, or other authorities.\n4. Self-nominations are ineligible.\n5. P
 revious award recipients from within the past 10 years are ineligible.\n6.
  Family members may not nominate their family members.\n7. Group Nominees 
 must be made by someone external to the group.
