Each year, United Way funds programs and services that touch thousands of lives in Cumberland County. Last year, 59 programs and services were funded thanks to generous donations from our community. Below is information about United Way initiatives and our Partner Agency funded programs and services.

Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library (DPIL) is a program that ​promotes early-childhood literacy by providing one free book a month to children living in Cumberland County, ages 0 – 5.


Through DPIL, children build their own library of books and are encouraged to develop a love for reading and learning.

NC 2-1-1 is a free information and referral service line that connects community members with health and human service resources in Cumberland County.

The Leadership Development Program is a 10-week program that develops individuals into effective, responsible leaders so they are prepared to participate on local boards and committees.

Applications will be available in January 2021.

Character Playbook is an innovative digital course that uses evidence based strategies to educate Cumberland County middle school students on how to cultivate and maintain healthy relationships by allowing students to engage with true-to-life scenarios that include bystander intervention strategies and positive relationship examples.
